2.0L 5 Speed. with A/C. The thermostat is on the bottom side of the waterpump and is blocked by the Alternator and A/C unit. Is there a mechanic out there than can tell me the easiest way to get to the thermostat. I'm only a little mechanically inclined. :) I do have the Chiltons manual but it doesn't say how to get to the Thermostat. I have replaced Thermostats before in my toyoto... very easy! Also i need to test the Coolant Temp Sensor(ECT), what spec readings should I be getting? It is a four terminal connector.
Thanks, Tanya1997 Jetta Easiest way to get to and change the Thermostat? Also ECT Specs?
Volkswagen has a problem with the water pump impeller falling off causing overheating, running hot, no circulation, cooling fan not kicking on. If this might be your problem you can see the water pump impeller after removing the thermostat. To get the thermostat you need a 1/4'; drive 8mm or 10mm socket with a 1/4'; drive wobble socket. This may require removing the alternator on some models. Hope this helps.

Find the top radiator hose and follow it to the top of the engine, the hose is connected to a bubble shaped housing, which you will need to take off to get the thermostat out.

Go to Chiltons.com or to Autozone.com. Both have repair and maintencance information in detail and many with pics. How to change a thermostat on a 97 jeep cherokee?
The radiator hose that connects to your motor on top. There should be 2 bolts that holds the metal piece on that the hose slips over. Remove the 2 bolts and under it is where your thermostat is. Make sure you replace the gasket. If your thermostat needs changing you must be overheating.

mazda '91- 626 need to change thermostat I just changed the RadiatorHow to chage a mazda 626 thermostat?
Make sure to get the same temperature thermostat and a new gasket or O ring when you buy it. Remember which way the thermostat sits on the engine block when you remove it. You might want to change that upper radiator hose at the same time. Buy some worm drive hose clamps too.How to chage a mazda 626 thermostat?
drain a little coolant from the radiator to lower the fluid level below the thermostat
remove the radiator hose from the engine block. it's in there somewhere. you might have to move a few things. just don't move the distributor.
remove the housing, make sure you put the thermostat back in the same way up as the old one was with a new 'o' ring. If it still pressurises and blows water out you are looking at at least a new cylinder head gasket or water pump.a dog for sale myspace images

How to change a thermostat on a 1999 alero?
flushed coolant . still overheating, while standing still mostly.... car is cooler on the highway. How to change a thermostat on a 1999 alero?
Dude
RTB that means read the book. Get a manual and read it. Also high quality tools (husky or craftsman) are a must. If you want to learn about cars find a shop that will let you, even sweep the floor and get a job in the industry. Always RTB if you don't know!!!How to change a thermostat on a 1999 alero?
The symptom you describe sounds like your cooling fan is inoperative. You just said it yourself, OVERHEATING WHILE STANDING STILL= no air flow through radiator. During vehicle cruising at highway speeds, there is sufficient airflow circulating through the radiator, which would not require the cooling fan to operate. One way to check this is to turn on the AC, and see if the cooling fan comes on. If not, either the cooling fan motor itself, or wiring to the cooling fan is the cause. Another way to verify cooling fan operation is to disconnect the ECT sensor with the vehicle running, the fan should come on at HIGH speed. If not, the ECT or its associated wiring could be the cause. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I'm trying to change the thermostat in my car?
I have a 95 Monte Carlo Z34. Anybody know a site I can go to for instuctions? Or better yet anybody know how to do it?I'm trying to change the thermostat in my car?
OK, its not a bad job at all. To locate the thermostat follow the top radiator hose to the engine. On most cars the thermostat will be located under where the hose connects to the engine. So first remove the hose on the engine side. By the way do this when the engine is cool. Now remove the thermostat hosing. Usually two bolts. Now you should see the thermostat. Clean both mating surfaces, replace thermostat with new gasket, gasket sealer is recommended re-attach the cover and then attach the hose. Top off coolant. Your all done!
